The Academic Skills Program is an extensive program designed to prepare students for university level academic success. It covers everything from the building blocks of a strong start at university, to practical skills that can not only be applied in university, but also outside of university. Upon successful completion of this program, students will have a new level of confidence and a strong competitive edge over their peers to succeed in university. Students will learn to have the right mindset for success, build rapport with faculty and university staff, study more effectively, write academic research papers at an advance level, have a strong understanding of academic honesty / plagiarism, and learn to find and access student resources that many students don't even know about.
ACADEMIC SKILLS PROGRAM CURRICULUM Lesson 1 - Academic mindset for success, university expectations, interdisciplinary thought processes, and student resources. Lesson 2 - Time management, productivity, learning tools and techniques, managing stress and anxiety. Lesson 3 - Academic writing across disciplines, writing styles, and advance academic skills and research Lesson 4 - Academic honesty, plagiarism and citations. Lesson 5 - Group projects, conflict resolution presentations and public speaking Lesson 6 - Editing, peer review, additional support. This last session is flexible and students will have an opportunity to add input on what content they want covered.
