What is project instigate?
Project Instigate is an academic mentoring service designed to help prospective and current university students improve their academic, leadership and personal development skills. This means taking students from wherever their academic skills are and bringing them up to university standards so they can meet university's expectations.
What sets Project Instigate apart from tutoring centers is that Project Instigate is not just about improving grades. Most students understand that a degree alone no longer guarantees a job. Therefore academic success is about more than just getting good grades. It's about what you make of yourself during your time at university, your capacity to apply what you learn in a vast range of settings, the specialization that you develop in the process along with your work ethics and level of integrity, and the work experience you bring to the table that sets you apart from everyone else graduating with the same degree or any degree.
We spend a lot of money protecting various assets through insurances, warranties, and protection plans when purchasing various goods. But we often forget to protect the most valuable asset and investment - OUR EDUCATION! Don't wait until it's too late. Prepare for university ahead of time.

TESTIMONIALS AND COMMENDATIONS
Testimonial of a student from Kwantlen Academic Writing Program (Now Academic Skills Program to be offered through Project Instigate)
Before I attended Kwantlen’s Academic Writing Program, organized by Fatima Zaidi, my writing lacked a critique. Thankfully, that changed for the better, after I completed her Academic Writing Program. Fatima Zaidi, a former KPU student organized the successful program herself and shared it with her peers and worked with us towards a common goal, success in our academic works. Her exciting and engaging program came to my attention via word-of-mouth. I was curious about it when a fellow student mentioned that we would likely benefit from taking part in her seven-week-program. With that useful suggestion, I signed up and took part in it and found it beneficial to be in my student life. In the Academic writing Program, I learned that every word needs a purpose or it should be removed. I was also taught how to read and think more critically of my own written work. Fatima taught in a fun yet professional manner. As a person and teacher, she is highly motivated to assist others and grow their love for written expression. I consider her a mentor and an inspiration to the student body and writers alike. Her character drives her forward and she is genuinely passionate in her pursuit to assist others in their success. With her as a leader in the Academic writing program, I felt that she was willing to help her students refine their work and become more effective writers. She gave each of us one-on-one time and answered our questions. After working closely with her, I recommend this program to others in a heartbeat!

Eagle Spirit Award received at Kwantlen Polytechnic Univeristy based on following nomination:
I am writing to nominate Fatima Zaidi for an Eagle Spirit Award. Over the past year I have seen Fatima demonstrate the type of exceptional leadership and service that I believe the Eagle Spirit Awards are intended to recognize.
I first met Fatima in the Fall of 2012 when she approached me about upcoming changes in Criminology requiring students to complete their required English courses prior to moving into higher level courses. As a result of our discussion, Fatima came up with the idea of developing a workshop to provide supplementary assistance to students who wish to improve their writing. While I was supportive of her idea, I did not have time myself to organize it and so I left the matter entirely in Fatima's hands. Over the course of the fall, Fatima proved herself to be a very capable and incredibly motivated student. On her own initiative, she made contact with faculty members in a variety of disciplines and together they organized and delivered a workshop during the Fall 2012 semester that provided students with ideas for improving their written assignment work.
The success of this initiative prompted Fatima to transform the single workshop into a series which ran throughout the Spring 2013 semester. Not only was Fatima instrumental in organizing this series, but when I attended one of the sessions I saw that she has also taken a hands-on, leadership role within each of the sessions. Needless to say, I was very impressed. During my 10 years of teaching at Kwantlen, I have observed very few students demonstrate the level of leadership, initiative, and service to the student body that Fatima has shown and I would highly recommend her for an award on this basis.
